Welding Blankets
Welding Blanket Selection How-To
The type of welding application determines which type of welding blankets are needed.
- Light Duty Welding Blankets - general purpose welding, light sparks, minimal spatter
- Medium Duty Welding Blankets - heavier welding, sparks, spatter, light slag
- Heavy Duty Welding Blankets - heavy sparks, spatter, slag
- Extreme Heavy Duty - very heavy spatter, slag, possibility of molten metal
Welding blankets for stress relief application
- For stress relief welding blanket applications, use only uncoated welding blanket material.
Difference between coated welding blankets and uncoated welding blankets?
- Coated welding blanket materials offer better abrasion and burn through resistance. Coated welding blankets are stiffer which allow spatter and slag to roll off more easily.
- Uncoated welding blanket materials are more pliable and are easier to drape over and wrap around objects.
What welding blanket weight and thickness to use?
- The performance of welding blankets depends on many factors. However, generally heavier and thicker welding blankets provide better protection and take longer to burn through.
Welding blanket for horizontal or vertical welding application?
- For vertical welding blanket application, thinner welding blankets may be used. For horizontal or flat welding blanket application, heavier welding blankets and higher melting temperature welding blankets should be used.
