Drain Tarps & Leak Diverter Tarps

A drain tarp (also called a leak diverter tarp) protects people, equipment, and inventory from active roof leaks, ceiling leaks, and pipe leaks. MyTarp.com stocks drain tarps in polyethylene, anti-static vinyl, and flame-retardant vinyl — in sizes from 3' x 3' through 20' x 20'. Most in-stock orders ship within 1 business day.

Drain tarp (leak diverter): A suspended tarp with a built-in 3/4" garden hose connector that catches overhead leaks and routes water safely away through a standard garden hose (not included). Corner D-rings allow suspension with bungee cords or rope. Widely used by roofing contractors and facility maintenance teams.

Whether you are responding to an emergency ceiling drip in a warehouse, protecting server racks in a data center, or keeping merchandise dry during roof repairs, a drain tarp gives you a fast, reusable solution until the source leak is fixed.

Material options

Choosing the right size

Match the tarp to the leak footprint, not the whole room. For a single drip point, a 3' x 3' or 4' x 4' tarp is usually easiest to position and suspend. Use 6' x 6' to 10' x 10' when the leak spreads across a larger ceiling area or when you need extra margin around equipment. For long runs along a pipe or seam, consider a 3' x 25' or 10' x 20' layout.

If you have multiple leak spots, several smaller drain tarps — one per leak — are typically easier to install and more cost-effective than one oversized tarp covering the entire area.

How to install a drain tarp

Position the tarp directly under the roof, ceiling, or pipe leak. Attach a standard 3/4" garden hose to the built-in connector and route the hose to a floor drain, bucket, or other safe discharge point. Suspend the tarp from the four corner D-rings using bungee cords or rope so the lowest point funnels water into the connector. After the leak is repaired, remove the tarp and store it for reuse.

Note: A garden hose is not included. Replacement hose connectors are available if the original is lost or damaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a drain tarp or leak diverter tarp?

A drain tarp (leak diverter tarp) is a suspended tarp with a built-in 3/4 inch garden hose connector. It catches water from roof, ceiling, or pipe leaks and routes it safely away through a standard garden hose. Corner D-rings allow suspension with bungee cords or rope. Drain tarps are widely used by roofing contractors and facility maintenance teams to protect people, equipment, and inventory until the source leak is repaired.

How do you install a drain tarp or leak diverter tarp?

Position the tarp directly under the roof, ceiling, or pipe leak. Attach a standard 3/4 inch garden hose to the built-in connector and route the hose to a floor drain, bucket, or other safe discharge point. Suspend the tarp from the four corner D-rings using bungee cords or rope so the lowest point funnels water into the connector. After the leak is repaired, remove the tarp and store it for reuse.

Is a garden hose included with a drain tarp?

No. Drain tarps are sold without a garden hose. A standard 3/4 inch garden hose is available at most hardware stores and home improvement retailers.

How do you fix a loose drain tarp hose connector?

The connector nut can loosen over time and cause dripping around the fitting. Turn the tightening nut clockwise to re-seat the seal. If the connector is lost or damaged, replace it with a compatible drain tarp hose connector. When installing a replacement, place the waterproof rubber gasket on the top side of the connector, opposite the garden hose threads.

What material options are available for drain tarps?

MyTarp.com stocks polyethylene drain tarps (11 MIL woven reinforced poly for general indoor leak control), anti-static drain tarps (11 oz anti-static vinyl for electronics and factory equipment), and flame-retardant drain tarps (13 oz FR vinyl laminated polyester for facilities that require flame-retardant materials).

Do you carry anti-static drain tarps?

Yes. Anti-static drain tarps are available for areas with electronics, computers, and factory equipment where static discharge is a concern.

Do you carry flame-retardant drain tarps?

Yes. Flame-retardant drain tarps are made from 13 oz flame-retardant vinyl laminated polyester for facilities that require flame-retardant materials.

What size drain tarp should I choose?

Match the tarp to the leak footprint, not the whole room. For a single drip point, a 3 by 3 foot or 4 by 4 foot tarp is usually easiest to position. Use 6 by 6 foot to 10 by 10 foot sizes when the leak spreads across a larger ceiling area or when you need extra margin around equipment. For long runs along a pipe or seam, consider a 3 by 25 foot or 10 by 20 foot layout.

Is it better to buy several small drain tarps or one large drain tarp?

For multiple leak spots, several smaller drain tarps (one per leak) are usually easier to install and more cost-effective than one oversized tarp covering the entire area. Smaller tarps are also simpler to position and suspend under individual drip points.

Can I use a drain tarp outdoors?

Drain tarps are not recommended for outdoor use because they have corner D-rings rather than grommets. Suspended by only four corners, a drain tarp is prone to tearing in wind gusts. It should not be used under a bridge, deck, or other open structure to catch rainwater. Drain tarps are designed for indoor leak control (roof, ceiling, and pipe leaks).

Do you sell replacement drain tarp hose connectors?

Yes. Replacement drain tarp hose connectors are available if the original connector is lost or damaged. When installing, place the waterproof rubber gasket on the top side of the connector, opposite the garden hose threads.

Are custom-size drain tarps available?

Yes. Custom-size drain tarps made in the USA are available upon request. Contact MyTarp.com at info@mytarp.com or 404-800-8888 for a quote.
